The Bay Area Country Dance Society (BACDS) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that promotes, preserves, and teaches traditional English and American music and dance in the San Francisco Bay area. BACDS Family Week is a week-long sleepaway camp for the whole family, held again this year in the redwoods at Monte Toyon in Aptos, CA. Activities center around traditional dance forms (English Country and Contra dance); this year we'll also have Irish ceili dance, a kids' intro to dance, preschool, theater and improv and circus arts, in addition to our usual crafts, stilting, maypole dance, parade, family dances and general fun!

We attended Family Week camp when our son Frank was 4 years old, and were impressed with the caring, play-based preschool program. I went again with him when he was a teen, and this time he learned some amazing skills ("rapper sword" dance) with the other teens, as well as singing for the first time with a mixed age choir, which set him on the choral music path he still pursues today. A wonderful community for all ages for folks who enjoy traditional music and dance.
