Moving to Seattle

We are moving to Seattle next week and I am wondering if anyone knows about a site similar to Berkeley Parents Network there. We will need to buy a house, find a new nanny, and get settled in. I’ve found this website to be extremely useful for our family. Please let me know if you know of similar resources in the Seattle area. Thanks!

Hi there. I’m originally from Seattle and now live in West Oakland. PEPS aim West Seattle is sort of a similar network but not as broad and not as much to offer as BPN. As far as networking and resources—it’s more of an early childhood network specifically. However, I’m assuming someone within that network may know of another one, depending on what your needs are. PEPS I believe is also more so focused on families and resources within West Seattle. So if you’re moving North or South, you’ll have to look into something else. Seattle is an amazing place to raise a family and live! A big difference you’ll notice from Cali is all the FREE events, resources, parks and recreational activities and festivities. It’s not as congested as the Bay Area. The Seattle Center, museums etc always have fun stuff for families. Either first or last Thursday’s of the month, most museums and some theaters are free for families... like the EMP. You can sign up for “tiny tix” and get more free admissions and fun stuff to museums etc and shows and theaters for the family. Alki Beach. Lincoln Park. Healthcare is amazing in the state of WA. If you have a more specific area of Seattle you know you’ll be finding a house in, you can respond and I’ll let you know what there might be in the area.

We moved down to the Bay area from Seattle a year ago.  There are several similar online parents groups in Seattle, but they are generally organized by neighborhood - we lived on Queen Anne and I recommend checking out Queen Anne Moms and Dads (yahoo group).  Another great parent resource for activities etc is https://www.parentmap.com.  Good luck with the move!
