Redwood Garden Preschool: One Opening for the Coming School Year

Redwood Garden, a small, outdoor preschool for children 2 years 6 months--5, in Northwest Berkeley, has one opening for the 2024/25 school year—its 21st year!

Redwood Garden offers a Waldorf-inspired play-and nature-based program in which the children are warmly and lovingly held in the comfort of a beautiful and peaceful home and garden setting. The child’s rich imaginative life, strong connection to the natural world, and need for movement and purposeful activity are fully supported and nurtured through child-led play; a daily and weekly rhythm; toys of natural materials that provide room for imaginative interplay; circle time with seasonal verse, rhyme and song and varied movement; and the partaking in seasonal festivals and celebrations. Each day a story is told in a soothing telling or puppet show, allowing the child to form her own pictures as it enfolds.

At Redwood Garden we paint, build, partake in seasonal crafts, garden, bake, cook and have weekly park days (once a month in Tilden). We take great care here--in the way we play with one another, resolve our conflicts, care for the natural world around us and for our school. A loving and supportive community of families is formed.

Snacks are whole grain and organic; hours are 8:45-2:15 Monday-Friday. Lauri Miller is a Waldorf teacher who founded Redwood Garden in 2003.
