Kairos Youth Choir: Enrollment Open for Fall Semester!
Kairos Music Academy’s musical education (and fun!) continues for children ages 6 - 14 with a brand new season.
We have two Open Houses coming up: Thursday, August 21st, and Tuesday, August 26th. Both will be held at Epworth Church in Berkeley from 4:45 to 6:15 PM. Our Open Houses are opportunities for young singers and their families to play games, meet new friends, learn some songs, have questions answered, and get a sense of what we’re all about! All are welcome, and no previous musical experience is necessary! Just bring a willingness to learn and an appetite for snacks! Sign up here: https://www.kairosmusicacademy.org/join-kairos/
If you can’t make our Open House, no need to worry. We rehearse at The Epworth United Methodist Church, 1953 Hopkins St, Berkeley, CA 94707 every Tuesday and Thursday from 4:30 – 6:15 pm beginning in September. Please feel free to drop by anytime. Just send us a quick email letting us know to expect you.
Kairos Music Academy is an afterschool choral program founded in 1990 with the mission of inspiring empathy and a sense of collective humanity through the art of choral music at a formative time in children’s development. Rooted in the belief that music brings people together, Kairos nurtures responsibility, compassion, and community through vocal excellence and expressive artistry. Now in its thirty-fifth season, Kairos continues to be a vital part of the Bay Area’s cultural landscape, with members from diverse cultural, ethnic, and economic backgrounds who come together to build lifelong friendships through music. The choir emphasizes vocal development and music theory within an educational approach that fosters leadership, sensitivity, independence, and self-discipline. Many alumni describe Kairos as one of the most meaningful influences in their lives.
Over the decades, Kairos has performed at premier civic and cultural venues including the Berkeley Repertory Theatre, the Berkeley Opera, and The Hard Nut with the Mark Morris Dance Group. In recent years, the choir has collaborated with the California Bach Society on its award-winning St. Matthew Passion, and has been regularly selected for the Junior Bach Festival, as well as Oakland A's National Anthem performances. Internationally, Kairos singers have represented California in Denmark, Norway, Italy, Austria, the Czech Republic, and Greece—where they earned double bronze medals at the Festival of Preveza in 2023. In 2010, Kairos was honored by the California State Senate for two decades of exceptional community service in the arts, and in 2014, formally became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
Kairos offers need-based scholarships, and no one is turned away for lack of funds.
