Does your teen love the outdoors, nature, and hiking? Is your teen looking to volunteer or intern to make education fun for elementary school age kids? Inspire Behavioral Learning is accepting applications now for teen nature camp counselors to intern in Call of the Wild Camps, outdoor nature camps in Berkeley, Oakland, and Cupertino/Los Altos Hills! 

Free educational and vocational Counselor in Training (CIT) experience for your teen to develop job skills in day camps while having fun! This unpaid internship may also be counted toward volunteer hours. Teens in the camp intern program learn to be outstanding nature camp counselors, inspiring kids ages 5-10 to connect with nature, hike and explore, read and write nature-themed works, create nature-inspired art, learn biology, and play in forests. 

Interns are in grades 9-12 (including 8th graders entering 9th grade in Fall 2024) and college/university undergrads majoring in biology, environmental science, or education. 

Nature camps:

  • Berkeley Summer Day Camp: June 10-Aug 9 Tilden Regional Park (training June 4-7)
  • Oakland Summer Day Camps: June 10-28 Joaquin Miller Park & July 1-August 2 Reinhardt Redwood Regional Park (training June 4-7)
  • Cupertino/Los Altos Hills Summer Day Camp: June 24-August 2 Rancho San Antonio County Park and Open Space Preserve (training flexible 3-4 days before June 24th)

Hours options:

  • Full day: Mon-Fri, 8:30 AM-4:30 PM
  • Half days: Mon-Fri, 8:30 AM-12:30 PM or 12:30 PM-4:30 PM

Training: the week before camps start and ongoing during camps.

Duties: participate in ongoing nature camp counselor training; assist with teaching outdoor education, nature education, biology activities, and nature-themed reading, writing, art, gross motor play, and games; assist with safely leading kids on hikes in forests; facilitate snacks, lunch, and free play; engage children with a friendly, playful, positive, energetic, and fun teaching style.

Application Deadline: 

  • Apply by May 13, 2024 for Summer 2024 Camp Counselor Intern in Oakland, Berkeley, or Cupertino/Los Altos Hills. 
  • For students enrolled in OUSD wishing to participating in the ECCCO summer internship program, the application deadline was April 24th for summer 2024, but keep us in mind for fall, winter, spring, and next summer!
