GirlVentures: Outdoor Adventure and Indoor Climbing Classes!

GirlVentures Fall Courses are open for registration!

As the only nonprofit of its kind, GirlVentures combines outdoor adventure with social emotional learning at a critical time in young peoples' lives. Starting at age 11, youth enrolled in our programs learn from experiential educators and mentors while building life skills that empower them to reach their full potential. 

*GirlVentures believes in practicing radical inclusivity. We serve gender expansive youth (cis girls, trans youth, non-binary youth, gender non-conforming youth, gender queer youth as well as any girl-identified youth).

All course fees contribute to our basic program costs.  

We ask that families self-assess their circumstances and pay what they can.

We provide all necessary gear, equipment, and transportation for Explore Outside from the GirlVentures office in Oakland.

Program #1- Girls* Climb On 

Girls* Climb On program is for youth in grades 6-10. 

The emphasis of this program is bouldering, building strength, technique, and group support, all within a social emotional curriculum led by the course instructor. 

Each youth is paired one-on-one with an adult mentor to learn climbing and belaying skills in an expansive gym environment.

This program is a great fit for everyone from a first time climber to a seasoned GCO participant. This includes adults who are interested in mentoring!

There are 9 sessions. Each session is about 3-4 hours long and includes snacks, breaks, warm up exercises, and reflective curriculum that deepens and builds on the experience of the trust and trustworthiness involved in the sport of climbing.  

Program Locations and Dates:

Pacific Pipe, Oakland - Thursdays  4:15-7:15 PM 

October 9 - December 11* (no class November 27th) 4:15-7:15 PM 

Movement SF, San Francisco: Sundays, 10:30 AM-1:30 PM

October 12 - December 14* (no class November 30th)

Program #2 - Explore Outside 

Explore Outside is for youth in Middle and High School 

It consists of multiple day trips and 1 overnight camping trip to Point Reyes National Seashore and other Bay Area parks, including one overnight kayak expedition on Tomales Bay.  

This course begins at the GirlVentures office in Oakland

Youth learn to sea kayak, while exploring the waters of San Francisco and Tomales Bay, and hike through Point Reyes National Seashore with trained Naturalists to study local ecology and environmental impacts.  

All field trips are led by trained GirlVentures Instructors.  

Program Dates: Saturdays October 18-19 (overnight), 25, November 1, 8, 15, 22. 

9:00am-5:00pm (Times may vary depending on the activities scheduled that day.)
