  • Swing set recommendations?

    Feb 17, 2021

I'd love to hear recommendations for swing sets that others have purchased and liked. We're looking for a wooden swing set, but it's hard to tell about the wood quality / durability online.

We have a Gorilla swingset and the quality is good. it's mostly wood, with some plastic decorative elements and a plastic slide. It was not easy, but also not impossible, to put together ourselves, so we did. I would say of all the quality wooden sets out there, Gorilla really dominates with the combo of price and quality. One caveat - delivery was bad (UPS freight). We had to refuse the first delivery because of damage, but it eventually worked out.

We have a Backyard Adventures playset that we got last March from Kidz Backyard in Danville. I believe they have a showroom, but at that point in early pandemic, I just worked with them online and on the phone. They were really great. Helped figure out what would fit in my space, ordered it all and then came and installed it. It feels really well made and it looks great too. Highly recommend!

If you are even a tad bit handy, Eastern Jungle Gym sells DIY, customizable swing sets parts. You can buy heavy duty metal brackets that you slide a 4 x 6 into for the beam across the top, and 4 x 4's for the legs for an A-frame swing set. Then you can buy whichever kind of swings you want (EJG has many swing types on Amazon, or get them from another company). I like them because you can customize your swing set to have whatever number and types of swings you want. You can also choose the lumber you want to use. We used pressure treated pine for ours because it is cheaper, but if you wanted to get cedar lumber you could do that, as cedar comes in the sizes that fit the brackets. The brackets come with all the hardware - all you need is a power drill and some type of wrench/ratchet to assemble it.

We are looking for a put-it-together-yourself swing set. We would like 2 swings and a trapeze plus a wood frame and all the nuts and bolts necessary to secure everything together. Can anyone recommend a place where we could buy this - locally or on the internet? Thank you. David and Vivienne

A while back I was doing some research as to where I could find a good wood framed swing set and I found this one company that offers some really good quality with varying types, guarantees, and wood selections You can email them and request a catalog of pictures which they will email you back. Their email address is Bob Forney or B Good luck in your hunt. Yanneth
