  • I'm looking for a park similar to Totland in Berkeley, but in the Richmond to Hercules area. Criteria: safe play area, ample parking or nearby disabled parking, tables/seating, bathrooms, shaded area. Any recommendations are greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

We like the Barbara & Jay Vincent Park in Marina Bay by the water. It's a nice area right on the water with picnic tables. It's not uncommon to see people holding small gatherings because it is very spacious. Can be a little windy. They have bathrooms, but I suspect they might not be maintained well after seeing people go in and then walk out immediately. There are also several mini-beach areas right over the hill, so that can be a nice change of scene from the playground area.

There are numerous WONDERFUL parks in Richmond. Some of my favorites:

  • Wildcat Canyon/Alvarado Park - off McBryde and San Pablo - woodsy with large new play structure
  • Pt Pinole - near the Richmond Country Club off Giant Rd - Large open space near bay also with large new play structure
  • George Miller Park in Pt Richmond - through the tunnel next to the Richmond Plunge
  • Richmond Marina
  • Nicholl Park on MacDonald has a new structure
  • Ferry Point Park - sandy beach

Perhaps she can get a list and/or map from the City of Richmond
