How Much to Pay a Nanny for Older Children

Nanny pay for 3 school-aged children
–Aug 15, 2023We have 3 kids ages 6, 10, and 13. We're in the process of looking for a new nanny/caregiver to help with school drop offs/picks ups, transportation to after school activities and general supervision/play for our 6 year old. Our last nanny was with us for a long time, and our needs have changed a lot since we last hired someone. Our older two kids are fairly self sufficient but do need help with transportation to activities. We need someone with reliable transportation who can drive our oldest two kids to activities and hang out/play with the 6 year old. We've been paying $30/hour for the past 2 years. I'm trying to get a sense of what's fair. Is anyone in a similar situation? Unless she needs a ride to activities or school, our 13 year old mostly disappears in her room and our 10 year old is also pretty self sufficient. $30/hour felt like a lot when we gave our nanny a raise during COVID lockdown. But maybe we're behind the times?

It sounds as though you want the nanny to use their own car for all the driving. Given the price of gas, I think that it should be at least $30./hour.
$30/hour for three kids and including transportation is extremely low. You should be paying At minimum $35/hour.
We're paying $35 for 2 kids of similar ages to your younger two. We recently hired someone new and, after surveying the market, decided we needed to give a substantial raise over what we had been paying our former nanny who had been with us through COVID.
$30/hr full time is $60,000 a year. I agree that's on the high range of nanny pay. But you also have to ask yourself the value of continuity and stability for your kids. Maybe you can negotiate it down to $25/hr? Do you give her generous benefits, like paid time off and vacation times?
