  • Hi,

My kids 7 and 4, speak Swedish and Hungarian but would benefit from talking to other kids. Are there families/kids in the East Bay looking to practice with us?

Hi, our daughter is only 3 months old, but since I'm Hungarian and my husband is from Brazil, she will be learning Hungarian and Portuguese at home, so I can totally relate to your situation. So I'd love to meet families with Hungarian-speaking kids because, just like you, I'll want my daughter to speak Hungarian with kids too. We live in Berkeley.

  • Does anyone know of any family friendly groups or activities related to Czech and Slovak culture? My almost 1-year old is of Czech, Slovak, and Chinese American heritage, and it would be great to take him to events related to his background. There are lots of Chinese cultural events and groups in the Bay Area, but it is trickier to find Czech/Slovak/Eastern European ones.

And if there happen to be any families out there with the same mix of cultural backgrounds, we'd love to connect.

Hi! I'm Chinese and my husband is Czech - we're expecting our first child in May, located in the peninsula and would love to connect :)

I used to live in the Czech Republic and my kids are Hungarian. Have you checked out the Czech School of California? https://www.czechschoolofcalifornia.com/

I could ask my Czech Hungarian friend about local Bay Area groups for Czechs. Usually, there are affinity facebook groups and email mama lists one could join, usually in the language of origin. Where are you based?

While not Czech, the Orly Museum in Berkeley often has cultural activities and Bohemian Slovak lands were once part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. There are cultural celebrations, dances, concerts, held there periodically.

    Hi there!

I got the goosebumps when reading your post because I could’ve written it myself. We are also a family of mixed heritage. My husband is from Slovakia and he is also a quarter Czech. Our son is mixed. I am half Filipino and half Persian. We would love to connect with you guys. Our son is currently 16 months old. We have found the Czech school of California in Palo Alto is really amazing and we go to Saturday schools there every week from 930 to 12 and it’s a complete Czech language and cultural immersion. They actually have Saturday school for kiddos starting from toddlers through high school I believe. Unfortunately not much Slovak language is spoken there, but there are a few Slovak families it is predominantly check. However, since they’re not that many resources for Czech and Slovak communities in the Bay Area. Anyway, I feel like we hit the jackpot finding out about the Czech school of California. I would highly recommend  them and would love to share more about our experience there.  Please feel free to message me :) ~ Mia
