Looking for my daughter to learn & play field hockey. Any options for girls in the east bay? Any camps or programs? I know Cal has a team. The last post I read was from 2013. Thank you!

    This club is great:

    They practice in Orinda.

Field hockey is AWESOME. I've played my whole life and it is super fun. Highly recommend!

Check out www.eastbayfieldhockey.com (Practices are held in Livermore and Orinda.  You can go to both or pick on location.

Field hockey camp for beginner?

Feb 2013

Hi, My 13-year old daughter likes playing schoolyard hockey, and would like to know if there are any field hockey camps or clinic for kids who might like to try it in high school. Cal's field hockey camp is for ''elite'' players. Any other leads? Thanks. Nancy

I'm so happy to see someone interested in my very favorite sport!

In the East Bay, there aren't a lot of options for field hockey camps. There are, however, a few on the peninsula. Most of the camps on the peninsula cater to beginning through advanced players (as young as 10 years old), so your daughter would be happy there. Some are have overnight options so that could be a possibility if you don't want to drive down there and back each day.

Will she want to play in high school? Unless something has changed recently, Berkeley High is the only school in the East Bay that offers field hockey. A few private schools in the city/Marin and most of the schools in the San Jose area offer hockey. So, something to consider. There are chances to play with private teams in the south bay, and I heard that a youth club was starting in the far east bay (East Bay Impact, I think) .... but otherwise it is BHS or nothing.

Best of luck and I hope your daughter enjoys hockey! I love field hockey!
