How do you find out about garage sales?

April 2006

Hi - if it ever stops raining, we'd like to hit some garage sales looking for gently used kids clothes and toys. Where do you find the ''best'' garage sale listings? Which newspapers & days, or is it the BPN newsletter? Anyone just ''drive around'' looking? How do you come up with your ''map'' for the day or weekend? Hope it dries up soon!

I can't answer your specific question, but you and others will want to know that El Cerrito's Citywide Garage Sale takes place on Saturday, October 14, 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Maps will be available at the E.C. Community Center beginning at noon, Friday October 13. Nancy

I recommend Craigslist. You can pick Garage Sale category and then pick the areas you are willing to drive. If you want kids stuff then put in a simple keyword like ''toy''. Jennifer

Start with Craiglist.org (you can select for sales in just one town), then let the signs take you elsewhere! Mary

Look on craigslist.org. Or sometimes there are ads in the Montclarion or East Bay Express. Or even driving around you see signs.

Hi- I usually just follow the signs on lazy Sunday mornings, but I also know about two mega sales that are happening soon and worth the drive. These aren't just a few families getting together, but 100's. On May 6th and 7th, hundreds of families in the Cordelia section of Fairfield participate in the community sale. When we lived there two years ago, I was amazed at the amount of people that showed up from as far away at Manteca and Red Bluff. Crazy. Now, we live in Green Valley (also Fairfield) and the community sale in our neighborhood is June 3rd. The Cordelia sale is larger since there are more homes over there, but it really is an event. I have heard that Blackhawk has a similar set-up, but I have never made it to theirs, although I am sure it is magnificent. Good luck!
