Transferring to Albany Middle in 7th?

We currently live in Richmond and I am interested in transferring to the Albany School District for my kid for 7th grade (next fall). I graduated from Albany High and had a good experience and think it would be a good fit for my child as well. When I went there (1 million years ago haha) it was fairly easy to transfer in to the school district. How easy is it to do an inter district transfer from a WCCUSD school now? Is it hard to get into the middle school in 7th grade? Does anyone have any recent experience with this process?  I would love to hear about your experience! Thank you!
