Preteen teen Online/Homeschool Support & Community
Hello parents,
have a rising 7th grader who is incredibly bright and full of potential. He also has ADHD, and while we’re grateful for the school community and the resources available, I know in my gut that traditional school just isn’t the best fit for him.
We’re dreaming big: we’ve found a couple of exciting online school options that offer entrepreneurship programs and engaging electives like AI, digital marketing, coding, art... The idea is to create space where subjects light him up and still have time for music, language, sport of his choosing without school spilling late into evenings and weekends. We’ve been told he will have zero electives next year bc of leaning center time. We also love to travel, so the flexibility would be a huge win for our family.
I’m looking into flexible online or homeschool programs that also support neurodiverse learners and allow them to thrive academically and socially. I’d love to connect with other families interested in forming a small, supportive, cool cohort or pod where kids work on their own online curriculum side-by-side, building both independence and community.
These are big decisions for any parents and as a full-time single mom, they can feel especially overwhelming and lonely. If you’ve walked this path, are exploring it too, or know someone who has I’d love to connect. I also welcome recommendations for programs, consultants, pods, or simply words of wisdom.
Warmly,
Blaire
