2E school for minimally verbal third grader in the bay area

My son is minimally verbal and not doing well in the public school system in Sacramento. We recent discovered that he is highly gifted in math and science. He can answer thru Assistive Tech. We are open to moving to any location in the bay area where he can get the right education and supports.

So far in my research, I have come across several private schools like Hope academy, Big minds, Burkard, Nueva, Da Vinci, Hilldale etc. How are the supports in the public school districts for 2e kids in the bay area? Please shed some light on this topic from those parents who are in similar situation!

We were in a similar situation a couple of years ago. We almost moved to Berkeley(which we so love!) but could not find a school that supported this. We finally moved our kids to Tessellations in Cupertino - an independent school for gifted learners and are very happy. All the Best.

We found that public school could not at all provide satisfactory supports for our 2e son who has ASD. We enrolled him at Big Minds in Pinole when he was in 2nd grade and he will be graduating this year and moving on to a college prep high school. I recently spoke with a school district representative who stated that “kids like him fall into the crack” as neither General Ed or Special Ed classrooms are well suited for 2e kids. I’m happy to share more info about our experience with Big Minds.
