Stanford University School of Medicine: Help us Understand Your Child's Social Skills

Researchers & Authors Seeking Parents/Kids
City:
SF Bay Area
Ages:
School-Aged, Preteens, Teens

We are recruiting children with a neurodevelopmental or neuropsychiatric condition, and those who are typically developing to participate in a research study to help understand children’s social abilities. Our goal is to develop and validate the Stanford Social Dimensions Scale 2 (SSDS-2), a new questionnaire measure designed to help researchers and clinicians better understand individual differences in different aspects of social functioning and motivation across different clinical populations.

Your child may be eligible to participate if they are between 5-17 years old and have a diagnosis of a neurodevelopmental condition, a neuropsychiatric condition or are typically developing.

What is involved:

  • Online Survey Component: Parents and children will complete tasks on the computer remotely.
  • Diagnostic Interview Component: Parents may be invited to complete a diagnostic interview over Zoom, and you and your child will attend an assessment visit at the Stanford Child Psychiatry Clinic.
  • Brain Scan Component (12-17 years old only): Children 12-17 years of age, may be invited to also participate in a brain scan at Stanford.

Participation in this study is compensated with Amazon gift cards; $30 for completing the online survey component, $45 for the diagnostic interview component, and $50 if your child participates in the brain imaging component.

In addition, research assessment feedback letters will be provided for interested families whose children complete the online survey tasks, and for those who participate in the diagnostic interviews.
