Elder Ashram
Hello, BPN!
As a member of the sandwich generation, I find myself parenting a teenager & supporting four octogenarians in their retirement. Not for the faint of heart!
My mother-in-law has Alzheimer's type dementia, & we have visited most of the memory care communities in the Oakland/Berkeley area. Given her current condition, we think she would be best served in a place with other interactive, social, engaged residents (most of the residents we have seen in memory care have had rather advanced dementia & don't seem as though they would provide the level of companionship we are hoping for).
We have toured the Elder Ashram, & we would love to hear more about it from family members of current or recent residents. The conversations we've had with the director & the philosophy of the community are very appealing to us, and it would be tremendously helpful to hear others' impressions & experiences. We are particularly drawn to the lack of a locked ward, the potential for my MIL to interact with a diversity of residents with neurological challenges, & the cohort of interns who provide support/care.
Thank you in advance for any insight!
All the best,
Jeanie
