ISO speaker on kids & screens, social media, smart phones

I am trying to set up a parent education series at my child's elementary school. Some of the topics parents are most interested in are screen/social media/smart phones/online safety. I am looking for a speaker that does parent education on some aspect of these topics. I have been looking around, but I can't seem to locate anyone local that does speaking engagements on the topic. If anyone has a recommendation, I would appreciate it. In older BPN posts, Jason Brand was recommended for parent ed on this topic, but I reached out and he is no longer offering seminars on the topic. Thank you!!

I would highly recommend Konika Wong of Girl Power Science (she doesn't only work with girls though, don't worry!). I worked with her when she was a science teacher and saw how amazing she was at teaching challenging topics in a fun, age-appropriate way and had a knack for translating that to parents too and giving them the tools to have those kinds of conversations with their kids. Now she does workshops for kids and parents around topics like body image, puberty and screen/social media usage. She's particularly skilled at working with elementary school kids and their parents which can be a bit harder to find (a lot of workshops are for middle school and up). Definitely check her out: https://girlpowerscience.com/parenting-in-the-digital-age

Betty Ray - betty [at] pandorasway.com (betty[at]pandorasway[dot]com) and https://www.pandorasway.com does this kind of work. She's in the Emeryville/Oakland/Berkeley area.

PW.com explains their basic philosophy around this. You can also follow her on social media: https://instagram.com/pandoras.way

Try Vanessa Callaghan. She does parent education workshops and likely has experience in this area. If she isn’t available she may know someone who would be a good fit. https://www.vanessacallaghan.com/

Is your elementary school in Berkeley? In the spring, we had an excellent presentation (and ensuing discussion) about Digital Citizenship/safety, how it's being taught in our schools and what we can do at home. The presentation was done by a member of the Library Services team for the District, so this could be a great way to start!

Reichi Lee is fantastic! https://www.reichilee.com/
