Girl Scout troop for 3rd grade
Hi there!
I am looking for a Girl Scout troop for my third grader. We are in the Albany unified school district, but are open to joining any active troop in Berkeley El Cerrito, Albany, Richmond, Oakland. I have tried to contact Girl Scouts of Norcal twice without any response. We’d really like to join a troop and experience all the wonderful things that come with scouting!
Thanks in advance!

Hi there,
I'm sorry to hear that you didn't get a response from gsnorcal.
Did you use this tool to look for a troop ?
https://mygs.girlscouts.org/search;type=TROOP
I hope this works for you. I used to be a membership volunteer in the South bay. I dont have a contact in the Albany area, but will try to look for one.
For now, I hope this tool helps.
Good Luck
I'm a girl scout leader, but not for 3rd graders. You'll want to contact Emma Simpson: alomas [at] gsnorcal.org (esimpson[at]gsnorcal[dot]org) She's the service unit manager for those cities. She can put you in touch with a 3rd grade troop.
It is a fun experience!
Welcome to Girl Scouts! My daughter has been in our El Cerrito based troop since she was a Daisy and now is a Cadette. For third grade your girl would be a Brownie. When you go through the registration process on Girl Scouts of Northern California site it will show you troops that have openings for new members, make sure to select the "Next Year" in filters (the Girl Scout year starts in October so you want troops with openings for October 2025 - September 2026). Doing a quick search it looks like there is a 3rd grade troop that meets at Thousand Oaks in Berkeley that has openings, and a community troop in Albany for mixed grades 1-5. There may be additional troops that don't advertise open spots (I know there is definitely a younger troop than ours in El Cerrito). If you can't find anything I would recommend: (1) reach out to Jennifer Love, membership recruitment manager, at jlove [at] gsnorcal.org (jlove[at]gsnorcal[dot]org) as she does local recruitment events and supports new troops and (2) join the GSNorcal Parents + Volunteers facebook group and post an inquiry, as sometimes a troop leader can make a spot or refer someone to a local troop with space that way.
