Desperately seeking after-school options for SM

Hi all,

My 5 year-old is starting Sylvia Mendez next week in Kinder. I am waitlisted on every COB after-school program. Anyone have any other ideas? Any parents looking for after school programs also? I am at a loss. I am feeling like kindergarden is not accessible without an after-school program. Any advice?

I have a 5 year old heading to Malcolm X and I’m in the same boat… I don’t know if I can be of any help but you aren’t alone…

I agree that Berkeley has a responsibility to help us out. I am in a group to try and help with this. We found Bliss Belly Kitchen. See some details below. I hope this helps!

The founder, Neelam, is incredibly supportive and has worked closely with families to meet their needs. Some highlights:
- Month-to-month enrollment (no year-long commitment)
- 2 to 5 days/week options
- Transportation from all BUSD schools
- Scholarships available for qualifying families

Let’s help spread the word about this amazing, women-owned local program!

Come to BAHIA's aftercare program, Sol! Our son has been there for a year and absolutely loves it. He spent all summer there for their camp and has not gotten bored at all. The maestras are wonderful. Transportation is provided from Sylvia Mendez. https://www.bahiainc.com/programs

I completely agree, Kinder (and other grades) is not accessible without an afterschool program.

The OFEE staff at Sylvia Mendez has some flyers with lists of programs and people trying to get carpools to afterschool programs, since getting a spot isn't enough. You also need BUSD transportation to provide a seat on  the bus to the program.

I am very sorry for your stress. keep asking questions like how many parents are in your boat.
