Frances Albrier afterschool reviews?

We're on the waitlist for this afterschool program. At this point we will take what we can get but I'm curious about recent experience so we know what to expect . Prior reviews are over 10 years old. Pros/cons? My kid will be in school at Malcom X.

Hi! I have incoming 1st and 3rd graders at Washington, they were at F.A. afterschool last year and will be there this year again. Full transparency that we had a rough first day at the program for my last-year kindergartener, but decided to stick it out and are happy we did! It's a Parks & Rec program, so it's casual and very affordable. My kids really like the dance/theater component – all of the kids do dance, and they have the option to participate in a play for the quarterly performances. That said, if your kid isn't very into that they will still have a good time as the whole day is not overly arts focused. There is dedicated time for reading/homework most days, but don't expect an academic/enrichment program. This is great for my kids; it's a lot of free play on the playground at San Pablo park, they've made friends from other schools, there are usually arts/craft supplies for kids that want to do that, etc. My kids love the staff, too, and because of that we've done some of the F.A. camps for non-pupil days and summer – it's been nice that my kids have familiarity with the staff for those. If you're able to get a spot, I'd definitely recommend taking it...you can always unenroll, and there will be someone on the waitlist interested!
