Ket Recipes: Family Recipe Transcription and Recipe Book Service!
Hello Berkeley Parent's Network!
Do you have hundreds of family recipes stored somewhere, but want to digitize them and share them out to friends and loved ones?
Have you been wanting to document your family recipes to pass down to the next generation?
Do your parents/grandparents live far away and you wish to have their recipes documented to cook at home?
I am offering my services to help you digitize/transcribe your recipes or help you create a family recipe book! Recently, I helped one family transcribe 150+ recipes across 5 generations and digitize them into a website.
Examples:
- You can see a google doc I created for this family here: ketrecipes.com/sample-transcription
- You see each of the recipes at ketrecipes.com/recipes along with the original recipe card.
- Here is a mock-up I created around what a page in a recipe book might look like: ketrecipes.com/recipe-book-page-mockup
If you are interested in digitizing your recipe cards or creating a family recipe book -- please reach out! Don't have any of recipes documented yet? That's fine! I'm happy to work with your family over the course of weeks to start documenting them. Since this is new, I am offering my services at a reasonable/discounted rate as I build my business.
How it will work:
- Once you reach out to me, we will set-up a video call to go over what your needs are and what you are hoping to have done. Also, we want to see if there is a mutual fit in terms of what you need and what I can do for you! We can also have a conversation on what are reasonable costs for you -- I'm mostly looking for thought partners here and to learn more!
- Once I have that information, I will provide an estimated timeline and check-point meetings to ensure what I deliver to you is what you wanted!
- I aim to work with 2-3 families at a time! So I can focus on delivering a high quality product to your family.
- Depending on the services asked, work may take as short as a few weeks to a few months.
- Rates will be very discounted in exchange for feedback and patience through this process!
Long-term:
My hypothesis is that families want to document their family recipes, but don't have the time, energy or resources to do so. There can be language barriers between older relatives or complex family dynamics to navigate. Recipes can be difficult to capture with people measuring with "gut feel". I want to eventually build tools to make this easier -- weekly texts to loved ones to write-up their favorite cookie recipe, audio extraction where loved ones can speak out loud recipes or over the phone/video call and more! Right now I am doing this process manually to learn more, but long-term I want to build online tools so people can do this all on their own! My vision is that families will be able to create beautiful recipe books that blend both digital and physical that they pass down for generations.
About Me:
I used to work at tech start-up companies as a product manager and obtained a B.S. in Computer Science. You can check-out my background at http://linkedin.com/in/alicetpham . I have worked/interned at companies like Amazon, BuzzFeed and Modern Health. I took a career break to explore the field of social work and enrolled in graduate school to become a therapist. I left that program recently to create technology that blends my passions of community, family, photography, storytelling.
Additionally, Ket means to "connect" in Vietnamese. It brings me so much joy to see families and communities connect with each other!
Thank you so much for the support as I build this platform!
