Sunshine Preschool and Childcare program, a Community Childcare Licensed program, provides an inclusive setting where children from 2 to 5 years have the opportunity to build and strengthen their pre-academic, social, emotional, and language skills under the guidance of trained staff. Sunshine Preschool is one of three classrooms on our campus that provides a play-based early education opportunity for students who are deaf/hard of hearing and students who are hearing.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Teacher will support a class of up to 15 children, ranging in age from 2 years to 5 years. The Teacher will work cooperatively with the Lead Teacher to create lesson plans incorporating on all areas of child development in thoughtful, fun and engaging ways. The Teacher will participate in weekly teacher team meetings with other Teachers, and attend monthly specialist meetings as needed. The schedule for this position is Monday through Friday from 7:30am to 4pm (a 8.5 hour shift which includes a 30 min. meal break).

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

· Provide a stimulating, developmentally appropriate, and safe classroom environment for students ages 2-5 who are hearing, deaf, or hard of hearing.

· Create curriculum incorporating all areas of development and individual student needs and interests

· Supervise classroom aides and work as a team to implement curriculum

· Assist in creating and implementing a daily schedule of activities to promote all areas of development

· Maintain records of daily curriculum, schedule, and attendance

· Maintain CA Childcare Licensing standards and conduct regular classroom and playground checks

· Collaborate with parents, supporting staff and agency team members

· Coordinate snack, art, sensory integration, motor, and cooking activities

· Support the Lead Teacher in daily preparation and clean up

· Maintain a clean classroom, including the adjoining bathroom

· Assist children with toileting or diapering needs

· Maintain confidentiality of all classroom and program operations

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Required

· 12 semester units of early childhood education minimum

· Minimum of 6 months teaching experience in early childhood education

· Experience working collaboratively with diverse populations and in supporting cultural competency

· Knowledge of child development and play based curriculum

· Direct and clear communication skills appropriate for varying situations and audiences

· Excellent analytical and organizational skills

· Ability to identify and monitor individual needs of children

· Current CPR/First Aid Certificate (or ability to obtain with 3 months of hire)

· Ability to lift up to 40lbs

Desired

· Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education

· Minimum of 3 years teaching experience and training in the areas of early childhood development

· Experience with parent engagement

· Sign Language Fluency

· Spanish Fluency

· Ability to provide guidance to, and partner with families, and colleagues

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $22.00 - $26.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week, benefits offered upon completion of waiting period.
