Academic Research: Help Asian American Breast Cancer Survivors (NIH Study)
Dear Parents & Community Members,
My name is Jiaying Luo, and I am a research assistant at the University of Texas at Austin School of Nursing. Under the guidance of Dr. Eun-Ok Im (FAAN) and Dr. Wonshik Chee, our team is conducting a NIH-funded study on how technology can improve pain management for Asian American breast cancer survivors.
Many Asian women silently endure pain after breast cancer due to cultural stigma, language barriers, and fear of burdening their families. Your help in spreading the word can make a meaningful difference for the mothers, aunts, and grandmothers in our community.
Our study offers free remote support to help.
Participants are randomly assigned to one of two groups:
- Online Education Group – Access to educational resources
- Coaching Group – Online forum + weekly 1:1 registered nurse sessions (3 months)
All participants will receive:
- $150 compensation ($50 per survey)
- A free Fitbit to track health metrics (yours to keep)
- No medications or travel required
Who Can Join?
- Women 18 or older with a breast cancer diagnosis
- Fluent in English, Chinese, Korean, or Japanese
- Have internet access
- Self-identify as Chinese, Korean, or Japanese heritage
