Hebrew/Judaic Studies Tutor

Humanities, Hebrew

Hello! As a Hebrew and Judaic studies tutor with over 20 years of experience, I have always loved helping students connect with the beauty and depth of Jewish texts as they learn to chant Biblical texts and prayers and master Hebrew.

My approach is patient, calm, and adaptable; I don’t believe in a single “right way” to learn, but rather in helping each student discover the methods that work best for them. I help students break things down step by step, use creative memory aids, and recognize patterns, and I tailor my teaching to build skill and confidence. I tell my students that learning Hebrew reading and chanting is like learning a musical instrument or another hobby: with repetition and practice, mastery is within their reach.

In addition to b’nai mitzvah preparation, I tutor Hebrew grammar and literature, as well as a range of Jewish studies topics, including Bible, Talmud, Jewish thought, and Jewish liturgy. I am currently a Ph.D. candidate in Near Eastern and Judaic Studies at Brandeis University, where I study medieval Hebrew and Arabic literature.

Before beginning my doctorate, I spent nine years as a librarian at the Los Angeles campus of Hebrew Union College, the Reform Jewish rabbinical seminary. There, I also taught Talmud in the summer Beit Midrash program and tutored rabbinical students in Hebrew.
