new kindergarten parent

My 5 year old son just started Kindergarten at Rosa Parks. Is this the first year that they start school and rotate teachers for the first week? (total of 4) If not and your child has had the same experience how did it go for them?

just curious .... Thanks!

All the Berkeley elementary schools do this. They do this so they can sort out the kids and create classes that are balanced in terms of behavior. The school called it "Gentle Beginnings" but I think it should be called "Rocky Start"! I get why they do this, but it prolonged the already stressful start of the school for my kid.

No, this is not a new practice and in fact all BUSD kindergarten classes do this. My son was a Rosa Parks kindergartener last year and I thought it was wonderful. The classes were very well balanced and the teachers were wonderful. I understand they have a new teacher this year as one moved up to teach 2nd grade, so I can't speak to her teaching style-but the other 3 were wonderful. Just wait until after back to school night. All of your questions should be answered there...that's when things really get into full swing.
