Micah Lessans LCSW: Creative therapy for children(10+), youth, and families

Hello, Berkeley and Bay Area Caregivers!

We're officially past the first few weeks of school, and now is often a time when challenges become more apparent or difficult to navigate. Could you use some extra support? My name is Micah, and I've been working with children and youth as a therapist in the Bay Area for well over a decade now (LCSW #69534). I'm currently accepting new clients, and would be honored to work with you and/or your young person. Over the years I have worked with young people and families experiencing a variety of challenges, including anxiety, PTSD, depression, self-harm, suicidality, substance use, anger, and gender dysphoria. I have a particular affinity for working with queer, trans, and neurodivergent young people and as a genderqueer AuDHD person am able to provide a level of understanding and care that can be incredibly affirming.

My style is curious and creative, and I love exploring what is important to young people and their families and using those frameworks to attend to mental health and relational needs. Does your kid love Dungeons and Dragons? Let's use role-play and character building in sessions! Do they love bugs? I'll explore bugs with your young person as a way to better understand their own patterns and need for care. I combine this play and openness with a variety of modalities, including elements of somatics, psychodynamics, internal family systems, relational therapy, and others. For family work, I believe that family is however you identify it and love working with non-traditional and traditional family structures alike.

My office is in Berkeley near the Aquatic Park, and I am happy to offer sessions there or at other nearby parks for people that struggle with a traditional office setting. My space is colorful, calming, and also an art space where we can get creative and playful together! I currently have availability on Mon, Tues, or Thurs in the afternoons and early evenings, and there is free street parking at my building.
