As summer winds down, there’s something special about this stretch of the season—long evenings, slower weekends, a mix of routine and restlessness before school fully kicks in. It’s one of my favorite times of year to photograph families.

Whether you’ve had a full, busy summer or one that slipped by quietly, this in-between moment is worth remembering. Maybe the grandparents are still in town. Maybe you’ve got a new baby, a big kid starting kindergarten, or just want to hit pause and soak up your family as they are—right now.

I’m Anthony Thornton, a documentary family photographer based in San Francisco. I photograph families in a natural, unposed way—no matching outfits or backdrops, just honest storytelling images of your real life together.
