Re: Highlights for less than $75?
You might try Sole Salon in Emeryville on Bay Street. It is an Aveda shop and the staff is partly comprised of people doing their internships/apprenticeships. So they have completed beauty school but now they are studying further in the Aveda way. In any case, my husband and I go there along with a few of our neighbors. I recently started seeing Jaz (I think her name is Jaslyn or something like that but just ask for Jaz) and she a few weeks ago she took me from shoulder length to a super short cut which I adore. She really listens and she is on the low end of their pricing spectrum--I think my last cut & gloss was $39. Can't beat it with a stick! Check it out. julie

Re: Hairstylist/colorist in Emeryville?
Sole Salon in the big shopping center there (with the Barnes and Noble). It used to be in Berkeley but it moved a little over a year ago, I think. I've been getting my hair cut by Tony (the owner) for almost 20 years. Recently I got my hair colored for the first time by someone else who works there. I was really happy with the results. It's not cheap, but I've been consistently happy with the haircuts I've had, both from Tony and from other people who've cut my hair when he hasn't had time. anon

Re: Need hip haircut for long, curly hair (Oct 2004)
I just got the best haircut and color of my life! The staff at Sole Salon is so wonderful, friendly, hip, and artistic. They are an Aveda salon. Edwin cut and colored my hair. He is inexpensive, and very talented. They also have model classes. They are all so loveley. I think the owner also has a son. Check them out. They are a little hard to find because they are hidden off the street on College Ave., but when you do you will love the space. julie

Re: Where to Get a Good Layered Haircut for Straight Hair (Nov 2002)
Go see Tony at Sole Salon in Berkeley, near the corner of College and Ashby. He is the owner of the salon, and they use Aveda products. He isn't cheap at all......$75, I think. May be too pricy, but he is good. Anne

Re: Tomboy wants to look more feminine (July 2002)
I highly recommend Sole Salon on College Ave in Berkelely. It is run by Tony De Martile, he can do great things with hair and he has a variety of services available. The front desk woman, Pam, is very helpful in setting up appts and getting people the services they need/ want. It's a very friendly place. Pam is actually Tony's aunt and many clients and coworkers lovingly refer to her as Auntie Pam. Don't hesitate to check this place out. It is an Aveda concept salon so they only use and sell Aveda products which are 100% vegan, and great for sensitive skin. The phone number at the Salon is 510.848-5633 Good luck.
