I want to share info. regarding the SILC program of cultural exchange in France . My daughter took part in this wonderful program in the summer between her sophomore and junior years and she had a ball! Students are placed with a family in Nantes for just over 3 weeks. At the end of the trip, the group spends 3 or 4 days in Paris before flying home. Sandy West will be taking the group for the tenth time this summer. While in Nantes, the group gets together for outings every 3 or 4 days. This is very comforting for a lot of kids- just knowing that they will be seeing English-speaking people on a regular basis! The American students not only bond with each other but with their French family and sometimes the families of other kids on the program. Nantes is a safe city and students can easily navigate its public transportation if they wish. My daughter returned the following summer to her family and, the summer after that, the French daughter came to stay with us. If you are interested, you can reach Sandy at 836-1154 at home or 238-2922 at work or e-mail at svswval [at] aol.com
P.S. Her french improved dramatically. (March 2000)
