My older daughter, who is now 14, went to Pleiades' Palette every summer since she was in first grade. My younger daughter has now been going there for 3 years. The whole family highly recommends it!

It is a really unique and inspiring camp. Each week a different woman artist is highlighted. The students learn about the artist's art and then create projects inspired by that artist. Everything from wooden miniature houses, to dolls sewn by hand, to paintings and books using many types of media and materials. The best part is that each kid gets to be so individually creative; both teachers are really encouraging of the girls' own creativity and art-making choices.

One summer my older daughter went to ''teen week'' designing and sewing by hand and making rock and roll costumes. She has enjoyed all the activities, each summer a little different. Printmaking, painting, mixed media assemblage and sewing. She came home telling me about the artist they were learning about, and what projects she was working on. The girls have some social time too (and good snacks!) and really get to know each other as they sit and create together.

Pleiades' Palette is great for kids already interested in art and for kids who just want to try out making different kinds of art. Heida

Our daughter is 13 and has attended Pleiades Palette for 4 or 5 years, and it is the highlight of her summer! She attended some other art camps before we discovered this one, but in terms of a lovely environment, fabulous teachers and beautiful projects, this is the place! She usually takes multiple sessions and each one is totally different because a different woman artist is studied each week. It's always fun. She learns more about art there in a week than over a year at school! Laura and Janet are wonderful teachers, and it's a wonderful week for the girls. We were a little worried about driving to El Cerrito from our place in Berkeley, but it looks farther on the map than it is. Often, families are able to set up carpools--and at any rate, it's totally worth the drive. elisabeth

If you are in search of a creative and fun art summercamp for your young girl, I highly recommend Pleaides' Palette. http://pleiadespalette.com/

Laura Raboff directs Pleaides' Palette and she is kind, nuturing and generous, and all the girls (and parents) love her.

My daughter loves the camp projects (painting, ceramics, collage, sewing, etc.) because they are all unique and fun to create. And as an artistic parent, I love how the camp offers diverse themes that provide art history information to the girls in a real meaningful, fun and hands-on way. On top of that, we think the supplies and snacks really rock!

Pleaides' Palette is really a great camp for girls with very dedicated, supportive and creative teachers! The Neill Family

I want to highly recommend my daughter's favorite summer camp - Pleiades Palette, which is art camp for girls, ages 6-12. It's a fantastic, creative program, the kids do amazing projects, and it's a great environment -- very warm and caring. It's run by art teachers from local schools, and it's not to be missed! For details, check out their website: www.pleiadespalette.com. You can also call or e-mail Laura Raboff for more information. Marilyn
