(August 2020) It is with great sadness and heartache that, after much consideration and reflection about our options in the face of this viral pandemic, we have decided to close our daycare permanently. Vovo´s Daycare opened its doors in the year 2000, and after caring for children for 20 years in Piedmont, Oakland and Albany, we have elected to cease operations because we are going through the worst public health crisis in more than a century. We did not arrive easily at this decision, but believe it is the best way to keep everyone as safe as possible.

I am writing to recommend Vovo's Daycare on the North Berkeley/Albany border. Both of my daughters started at Vovo's when they were three months old, and the oldest is now off to preschool. Alia (''Vovo''), her family, and her assistant Desi are some of the warmest people you will ever meet. Alia has cared for many babies and children over the years (including five of her own, now grown) so she knows what she's doing. She and Desi are generous with hugs and attention, provide healthy foods (mostly lentils, beans, rice, vegetables, and lots of fruit -- with the occasional treat) and maintain an amazingly clean, sane environment in the house. I believe right now (Sept. 2009) Vovo's has space for a child over two years old, either part-time or full-time (there is some minimum amount of hours, so give Alia a call). -Joanne

If you are looking for a grandmother that treats kids and babies like her own grandchildren, you have to contact Alia, the owner of Vovo\x92s Childcare (\x93Vovo \x93 means grandmother and it is the most appropriate name for this place!). Alia cooks genuine food; she plays and takes care of children like only a grandmother does, with patience and love. When I came here from Italy I saw many places in Albany and Berkeley, but none of them encouraged me to leave my daughter when she was just four months old. At the end I met Alia and I was finally ready to start to work, sure that my baby was in good hands. I do not have enough words to say how wonderful was my experience with her! She will have some openings from July. If you really want the best place for your sons do not hesitate to meet Vovo (510-5285451, she charges $10 .00 for hour with a minimum of 15 hours for week).

I'm writing to recommend Vovo's Childcare. ''Vovo'' (which is Portuguese for ''grandmother'') lives in Albany on Key Route Bldvd., near the Berkeley/Gilman border. She is a wonderfully warm and loving woman. She serves hot lunches, and gives children snacks throughout the day. Her adult daughters and eldest son help her. She's very clean and safety-conscious and has a great backyard for toddlers to play in. She has a small group of children (mostly infants and toddlers) that she regularly takes care of, and has room for 1-2 more children.
