How to find a book club?

Ask at your local library branch - often they run book clubs or know of people looking for one. Or post here on BPN with details about what you're seeking - that's how I got into a book club that's still going strong 10+ years later!

I found one on Meetup that had been a good fit for me a few years ago.  I'd check there. You might try the local libraries as they often have book clubs. 

I'm part of 3 bookclubs. Two I found on meetup and the other I found on Nextdoor during the pandemic. Meetup has several book clubs in the bay area, you'll find one based on your interests. 

I've started a few bookclubs. What helps is to ask friends and acquaintances who are readers, the people you might talk about books with. And then ask them if they know someone they want to bring into the group. Think about the guidelines upfront -- how the group wants to choose books, how to share the space, are spoilers if someone didn't finish the book. For example some groups have a different member bring in 3-5 books each month and choose from that persons selections. In some, everyone brings in a couple of books, and people choose between them. Some have one person who usually suggests the books. Others have a consensus model where they try to choose a book that everyone has been planning to read. In terms of sharing the space, there is doing "rounds" where each person says something about the book, and then you circulate. There's the "interruption" model where people talk more spontaneously. There are groups that use talking sticks, and groups that use timers. 

Anyway, I would highly recommend starting your own bookgroup. It is a good way to get to know people better, and have deeper conversations with them.

There are a handful of East Bay book clubs on meetup.com that seem to meet regularly. I think I saw one that charged a fee, but most are free to join.

I'm the co-lead of a book club on Meetup, we read new fiction and meet the first Wednesday of the month (usually). There are many book clubs of all types on Meetup (short stories, non-fiction, etc). I know a lot of people who are members of many of them, and they pick and choose which ones to go to based on interest in the books. My book club has several regulars and we always get a few newbies every month.
