I wholeheartedly recommend Rita Ferrando and the whole family at Little Blue Dolphins on 4th St in Alameda. My daughter has been thriving at this wonderful home-based daycare since she was 10 mos (she is now 2.5). Rita serves a wonderful home-cooked breakfast and lunch, as well as snacks. She is trained both in infant care (including taking care of my preemies), and in baby sleep techniques. Within a month, my daughter was taking 2 naps a day and sleeping through the night! There is an amazing ratio of caregivers. Rita and her husband are always there, her mom (who is a nanny) pitches in when needed, and her two lovely teenage sons play with the kids after school. This means that there is always someone who gives individualized attention to my daughter when she needs it. More than anything, though, I have been impressed with the love and affection that Rita has for each of the kids. I love knowing that my child is in a happy environment with people who care about her. Rita's rates are very reasonable too.
