I am an Educational Therapist based in the East Bay offering personalized reading, writing, math, and dyslexia instruction over Zoom.

I have experience teaching students with a range of learning styles and needs including Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, Dyscaculia, Autism Spectrum, ADHD, Giftedness, and Developmental Delay. I also work with students who have no diagnosis but need academic support, or for whom the teaching methods used in school are not working.  I am trained in the Orton-Gillingham method, and am currently finishing up my Professional Certificate in Educational Therapy.

I offer one-on-one sessions and personalized small group sessions. To learn more, check out my website, or feel free to contact me via phone or email.

We've been working with a tutor through Joy of Learning for about 6 months now. It's been helping tremendously for our 7yo 2nd grader who was recently diagnosed with dyslexia and is reading 2 levels below grade. I didn't think remote tutoring would work for our child but it's been fantastic. Jordan and the tutor we work with are easy to communicate with and helpful in navigating all the efforts to get caught up. I'd highly recommend.

Jordan has worked via zoom with both of my elementary school children this spring and she has managed to both build a connection with them (without every meeting them in person) and to build their reading skills through their time together.  She jumped right into the Orton Gillingham work with my oldest who has dyslexia and quickly figured out the right way to engage my younger child.  I couldn't recommend her more.

I can not say enough wonderful things about Jordan. She's been working on reading with my 11-yr-old for almost a year. She has a very thoughtful, methodical approach and layers each skill for the student in a way that they can achieve. I really appreciate this about Jordan, especially when a lot of schools are a one size fits all and nothing seems to stick. I feel that my daughter is finally building a real foundation. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me.

Thanks, Jessica, for the recommendation! We ended up working with Jordan, and she has been a wonderful teacher for my son Tyler (now 8), and I have seen his confidence grow tremendously in the months they have been working together. She is very knowledgeable about the intricacies of teaching foundational reading and math, and managed to engage Tyler and get him on the right track when he was beginning to feel discouraged about school.

Hi Ian,

I can recommend a woman in Berkeley named Jordan Burns who does in home tutoring for reading. She worked with my son who has also struggled with phonics and sounding out words. Her method is Orton-Gillingham based - It's called All About Reading. She's very personable and connected well with my son - he made great strides and is now reading on grade level! She has a website - http://www.thejoyofreading.org.
