Our school provide a warm, safe and nurturing environment, so that young children can develop a sense of trust and belonging. Children are
encouraged to explore materials as well as relationships with peers and adults that help in developing their learning experiences in a racially
integrated, linguistically diverse environment.
Our preschool programs nurture young children's physical, cognitive, social and emotional development, as well as develop kindergarten school
readiness skills, empower families and respect the cultural and linguistic diversity and unique characteristics of our families.
Enrichment program includes: Field trips and on site Gardening, Library and PE (YMCA coach).
Provided meals depend on length of day. Tuition is income based. Open to non-residents.

Seeking reviews of Berkeley Public Preschools

Does anyone know anything about the Berkeley Public Preschools. I know you need a low-income to qualify for admission, but I haven't seen any reviews of the schools. Any experienced opinions out there? Thanks! -Rachel.
My son is at Franklin, last year he was at Hopkins, and I'm happy with both of them. He's in special ed, though, so our experience may be different. Feel free to contact me directly if you have specific questions I can answer. Jill

Our children qualify for the Berkeley Headstart program. Please send us your thoughts (pro's and con's) regarding the Berkeley Headstart Program for 3-5 year olds. We are trying to decide whether to send our children to the Headstart program or to another preschool in the east bay area. Thanks.
My son went to Nelly C.'s Spanish-English bilingual class at Franklin State preschool; it is a BUSD preschool, and they have partnered up with Headstart and like to accept Headstart children. It is a mixed population; Nelly was GREAT; one of the assistants was too, who since left and is teaching elementary now. But it really was a great program. One thing is, it is only 3 hrs. a day, either morning or afternoon, generally older children PM, younger in AM. I don't have their phone, but if you call the BUSD they can tell you. I didn't like the other classes at Franklin State very much; I thought some of the other teachers didn't have their heart into the teaching at all; Nelly sure did. mom
