Structured Literacy tutoring for struggling readers, dyslexic students, English language learners, and curious bookworms
I offer Structured Literacy and pronunciation tutoring for struggling readers, dyslexic students, pre-readers, English language learners, and students of any age who want to read more fluently and improve their vocabulary. I tutor out of my home in San Francisco, and online using WebEx video conferencing and an online structured literacy program called Lexercise. Other programs I use include Lindamood-Bell LiPS and Marcia Henry's Patterns for Success, and I will tailor my teaching to meet each student's needs. I have a master's degree in teaching ESL, specialized training in literacy and linguistics, and many years of experience. Please see my website for more information:
Structured Literacy (aka the Orton-Gillingham or Multisensory Structured Language approach) is a step-by-step approach to teaching students to read accurately and quickly. It reduces the anxiety felt by struggling and new readers by revealing the logic of English spelling, and providing plenty of practice with each step before advancing to the next step. It covers sounds (phonemes), spelling patterns (graphemes and syllable types), meaningful word parts (morphemes), Latin, Greek, and Anglo-Saxon word roots, handwriting, vocabulary, and fluency. It is recommended by the International Dyslexia Association as the most effective way to teach dyslexic students.
