My name is Michael Gorin and I have been tutoring youngsters since the summer of 2015.  As a former Bay Area community college and U.C. Berkeley student, I have completed a broad range of courses.  At Cal, I majored in Conservation and Resource Studies, with an ecology emphasis, in the university’s College of Natural Resources.  Born in the U.S., I spent my middle and high school years in England, and went through the British school system, returning to California at age eighteen.

Much of my tutoring has involved working with grade school ESL learners, assisting them with English writing, grammar, vocabulary, and reading comprehension.  I also help elementary and middle school students with schoolwork/homework in science, social studies/history, and math.  In addition, I tutor first or second year French learners. And, for those well into high school, I help with various aspects of the college application process.

My best qualities as a tutor are that I am very patient, have a good sense of humor, and possess an empathic nature. I am happy to meet you at your home, a library, or other place conducive to learning.

In my spare time, I enjoy hiking and camping, and am a volunteer docent at Mount Diablo State Park.
