Experienced Yale grad - elite test prep, college essay, English, and Spanish tutoring
My name is Michael. I am a full-time, career tutor based in San Francisco. I am a graduate of Yale University (B.A. comparative literature ’14) with seven years of tutoring experience. I work with middle and high school students on SAT, ACT, and SSAT preparation; college essay composition; and academic Spanish and English. I also work with late elementary and middle school students on learning to read for pleasure. I was valedictorian of my high school class, achieved a five on all of my AP exams, and have 99th percentile scores on the SAT and ACT.
The basis of all my tutoring is connection with the student. I have seen time and time again how students can lack confidence in a particular subject, but when they are taught in a way that actually resonates with them, they discover that they are able to excel in that area. My job as a tutor is to see how each student needs to be taught and to teach in that way. I put time and effort into creating individualized lesson plans for every session. I stay in close communication with parents so that they can support the learning process and stay up to date on their child’s progress. I see tutoring as a creative endeavor and a valuable challenge for me as a person. My students consistently feel not only that they have achieved the results they desired, but also that they have become more confident learners.
