Who: I’m Nick. I have 15 years experience studying and speaking Japanese, including two years living in Japan. I have diverse English-teaching experience: in Japanese elementary schools, to refugees, and through private lessons. I have been teaching Japanese since 2016 and ESL since 2012. What: Fun, effective language lessons. I believe the key to learning a language is consistent, low-stress practice and fun, meaningful contexts. I know firsthand how frustrating speaking a new language can be, but also how rewarding it is to make yourself understood in another culture. When: Flexible schedule! Why me: Being a second-language learner myself strongly informs how I teach, helping me bring empathy, patience, and curiosity into my lessons. I love using activities that are engaging and fun yet facilitate real communication, and open-ended practice focusing on content, not mistakes. While advanced speakers benefit from native instructors, for beginners, lessons from someone who learned Japanese from scratch can sometimes be more effective.
