United Health Care in CCSF

I work for City and County of San Francisco (CCSF) and have been fine with Blue Shield HMO Access+ for me and my child for 18 years, but have been thinking about switching to the PPO plan they offer through United Health Care because my child is now college age and may go out-of-state or out-of country and because there's so much wackiness with Brown & Toland vs Sutter. My questions are (1) to any CCSF employees who have made this switch and/or (2) anyone else who either uses United Health Care PPO and/or (3) who made a switch from any HMO to a PPO. Are you happy? Plusses and minuses? Things you did or didn't even think about that you suggest I think about? We are big users of unreimbursed mental health services under Blue Shield so particularly interested if anyone has opinions about savings or extra costs for utilizing those type of service.
