Back to School with Selective Mutism: How Parents and Caregivers Can Advocate for School Support

Who is the group for? For parents of K-6th graders
In this webinar parents and caregivers will learn:
- Who they should speak to at a school to begin the process of getting their child support
- What support to ask for
- The difference between a Student Support Team Plan (SST), 504 Plan, and Individual Education Plan (IEP)
- Examples of accommodations and goals for SM
- How to work with school staff to measure their child's progress
- What role a therapist can play in school support
There will also be an opportunity for Q&A
About the facilitator:
Olivia Rivera, LCSW, will lead this group. Olivia is a therapist who currently treats children with SM, and provides parents and school staff with the training and skills to support these children. Olivia worked for many years as a school social worker and 504 coordinator in grades K-12 and brings this breadth of experience to her work.
