Hi Parents,

Fall is here in Northern California.  The days and nights are cooler, it's getting dark earlier and the Halloween decorations are starting to pop up around the neighborhood.  As the season shifts it reminds me to think about what transitions I want to make in my own life.

Change is hard especially breaking habits we have fallen into as parents.  The good news is you don’t have to change overnight. You just have to take that first step.  Over and over again with my coaching clients I see how one small tweak can bring huge results.   

When I support clients in my parent coaching practice, I use five steps that help them catalyze change. I am sharing them with you so that you can take that first step towards addressing your most pressing parenting challenge.

Step 1:  What needs attention in your parenting that you'd like to change? 

It could be something like...

😲 Less yelling.

🖥 Better screen management. 

🐶 Increase my self care care.

Step 2: Envision how you’d like things to be:  

😲 I want to respond better when I get frustrated.

🖥 I’d like the kids to do some self regulation of their screen time.

🐶 I would like to get more exercise.

Step 3: What IS working in the situation? 

😲 I am good at keeping my cool when I am rested.

🖥 We don’t have screens at the dinner table.

🐶 I walk the dog.

Step 4: What strengths do you bring to help make this change?

💪 Good at keeping a routine once it is set

💪 Goal oriented

💪 Dedicated to my kids

💪 Positive attitude

Step 5: What is one small step that you can take in pursuit of your goal?

😲 Go to bed by 10 pm so that I am more rested.

🖥 Have the kids an oven timer to keep track of screen time.

🐶 Increase the distance of my dog walk.

Small changes can have a ripple effect that can make big differences in your parenting and your family life.
