MCPC (Montclair Community Play Center) Co-op Preschool seeks a Lead Spanish Enrichment Teacher for the 2024-25 school year.  

$25-27/hr (based on experience); 10-19 hrs/week (includes prep). Availability required on Mondays and Wednesdays from 11 AM - 4 PM, totaling 10 hrs/week. Additional hours may be available during our morning preschool program (M&W starting @ 8 AM) and Saturday morning toddler program (8:30 AM-11:30 AM), for up to 19 hrs/week.

About Spanish Enrichment @ MCPC: 

This curriculum-based preschool program is conducted entirely in Spanish on Mondays & Wednesdays from 12-3pm. Children sing Spanish songs, learn counting and conversational Spanish phrases, and craft Latinx art projects, fostering cultural enrichment. This program is meant to be foundational in providing a lifelong love and appreciation for languages and cultures.

Job Description & Responsibilities:

The Lead Spanish Enrichment Teacher facilitates activities and schedules, guides children, sets up activities, leads circles, and collaborates with the Assistant Spanish Teacher. Duties include planning sessions, and attending meetings if requested. This position reports to MCPC’s Director with oversight from the Executive Board under an annually renewable employment agreement.

The Lead Teacher implements a curriculum outlined by the Director, who will supervise the Lead Teacher's daily teaching activities, program content, and overall performance and growth.

Teaching Tasks:

  • Develop a supportive relationship with children through daily interaction and observation
  • Sensitively assist children in their acquisition of Spanish language skills, and developing socialization skills
  • Use positive discipline and redirection rather than timeouts
  • Supervise lunchtime, and read books in Spanish
  • Direct Assistant Teacher on how to lead circles and set up the patio and outside space as needed
  • Implement the curriculum, including developing materials, themes, songs, and activities

Meetings:

  • Meet with the Assistant Spanish Teacher as needed to discuss and execute the curriculum and teaching strategies
  • If requested, meet with the Director and other teachers 3-4 times per year
  • May be asked to attend general membership meeting(s)

Qualifications:

  • Passion for and experience working with preschool children
  • Complete 15 hrs of health and safety training, including first-aid and CPR, before the school year begins
  • Have a TB test and medical checkup per state licensing requirements
  • Provide proof of vaccinations against Measles (MMR), Pertussis (DTap), COVID, and influenza (or a written statement declining the influenza and COVID vaccinations annually)
  • Comply with all state licensing requirements
  • Demonstrate punctuality, creativity, a cooperative attitude, initiative, confidentiality, professional behavior, cleanliness, and support for MCPC's mission and philosophy
