How can art therapy help me? Art Therapy can help you: Attain a better understanding of yourself, your goals and values. Develop skills for improving your relationships. Find resolution to the issues or concerns that led you to seek therapy. Learn new ways to cope with stress and anxiety. Manage anger, grief, depression, and other emotional pressures. Improve communication and listening skills. Change old behavior patterns and develop new ones. Discover new ways to solve problems. Improve your self esteem and boost confidence. Art Therapy is used to improve cognitive and sensorimotor functions, foster self esteem and self awareness, cultivate emotional resilience, promote insight, enhance social skills, reduce and resolve conflict and distress. Art Therapy is a specialized area of mental health that uses art materials and the creative process to explore emotions, reduce anxiety, increase self esteem, and resolve other psychological conflicts. An Art Therapist uses art materials and directives to activate sensory responses and generate imagery that is directly connected to emotions. This process helps one to re-experience emotions in a way that allows them to organize their feelings and form a narrative around an overwhelming experience.
