Nature Camp Counselor Internship Openings for Berkeley and Oakland. Current spaces open: intern in Berkeley through August 9 at Tilden Park (full day or half day), intern in Oakland through August 2 at Redwood Regional Park (afternoons).

Does your teen love the outdoors, nature, and hiking? Is your teen looking to volunteer or intern to make education fun for elementary school age kids? Inspire Behavioral Learning is accepting applications for teen nature camp counselors to intern in Call of the Wild Camps for outdoor nature camps in Berkeley & Oakland!

Free educational and vocational Counselor in Training (CIT) experience for your teen to develop job skills in day camps while having fun! This unpaid internship may also be counted toward volunteer hours. Teens in the camp intern program learn to be outstanding nature camp counselors, inspiring kids ages 5-10 to connect with nature, hike and explore, read and write nature-themed works, create nature-inspired art, learn biology, and play in forests. 

Interns are in grades 9-12 (including 8th graders entering 9th grade in Fall 2024) and college/university undergrads majoring in biology, environmental science, education, or closely related fields. 

Nature camps with intern openings:

  • Berkeley Summer Day Camp: now through Aug 9, Tilden Regional Park
  • Oakland Summer Day Camps: now through August 2, Reinhardt Redwood Regional Park

Hours options:

  • Full days available in Berkeley: Mon-Fri, 8:30 AM-4:30 PM
  • Half days available in Berkeley: Mon-Fri, 8:30 AM-12:30 PM or 12:30 PM-4:30 PM
  • Half days available in Oakland: Mon-Fri, 12:30 PM-4:30 PM

Training: the week before camps start and ongoing during camps.

Duties: participate in ongoing nature camp counselor intern training; assist with teaching outdoor education, nature education, biology activities, and nature-themed reading, writing, art, gross motor play, and games; assist with safely leading kids on hikes in forests; assist with implementing theme weeks Enchanted Forest Reading, Enchanted Forest Art, Enchanted Vegan Nature, and Enchanted Forest Writing; facilitate snacks, lunch, and free play; engage children with a friendly, playful, positive, energetic, and fun teaching style.

Our ideal teen interns: outgoing, friendly, adaptable, creative, fun, energetic, and dependable outdoor lovers who are eager to gain experience teaching elementary school kids. The #1 quality is eagerness and openness to learn and develop your skill set. This internship is ideal for teens considering careers in teaching and working with children. Being vegan for animals and the environment or vegan-curious is a plus.
