No More Yelling: The Art & Science of Respectful Discipline

Two Monday Evenings: December 6 & 13, 2021 | 6:30-8:00pm

On Zoom (through Natural Resources)

When our babies are born, we tell ourselves that we will love them deeply, care for them well, and avoid leaning on some of the old-school discipline tools our own parents may have used. And most of us manage to do these things—most of the time—when our children are babies.

But as our children get older and start testing the boundaries of their world, we can also find that we are less able to hold on to the promises we made to ourselves. It is so frustrating to feel that our children are not behaving in a way that we wish. On top of that, it can be so discouraging to see ourselves behaving in a way that does not align with our values and the love we feel for our children. This can lead to feelings of regret for us as parents and a sense of broken connection with our kids.

Fortunately, there are effective ways to shift our children’s behavior without resorting to punishment, yelling, or shaming. Join respectful-parenting coach Caroline Griswold for a unique two-part workshop on how to meet your most challenging moments with your children with greater connection and respect. We will explore an integrated approach to discipline, as well as discuss how the language we use can shape our children's development and ways of relating.

The workshop will address participants’ specific challenges and questions, as well as how to:

  • stay grounded and calm when disciplining;
  • communicate with our children to encourage shifts in behavior;
  • repair “ruptures” that happen when we discipline too harshly; and
  • work with a partner (if applicable) on a shared discipline vision.

All attendees will leave with practical, immediately applicable tools to guide their children’s behavior in alignment with their parenting values.

This class is geared toward parents and caregivers with children up to 6 years old, but those with older children are also welcome.
