East Bay Art Therapy: Art Therapy Services for ages 10 and up!
My name is Tonia Herrero, MPS, ATR-BC, LCAT and I am a Licensed & Board Certified Art Therapist in private practice in Oakland, specializing in pre-teens, adolescents, and young adults.
(Online or In-Person)
Do you feel like you've tried everything with your child, but they struggle to benefit from traditional talk therapy because they are resistant to opening up? Do you have a creative teen who struggles with depression or anxiety, but enjoys expressing themselves through art? Art Therapy may be the answer for your child. As an art therapist, I incorporate talk therapy with art making to help my clients unlock their creative potential, look at problems with fresh eyes, and develop new creative coping skills for dealing with difficult emotions or situations. I provide a warm and empathic environment where your child will feel safe to explore and express their authentic self and get in touch with their creativity. Through processing their art verbally with me, they will gain insight into themselves and their experiences or patterns that may be presenting difficulties for them.
I have extensive experience working with young people with depression, anxiety, trauma, substance abuse, grief, ADHD and other behavioral and mental health issues. I also have extensive experience working with members of the LGBTQ+ community. I offer a safe space for your child to explore, grow and even have fun in the process. No prior experience or skill in art making is necessary to benefit from art therapy.
I offer individual sessions for clients ages 10 and up. I also have a teen girls art therapy group!
My office is conveniently located off 580 in Oakland (near Piedmont ave and MacArthur blvd) and I have a flexible schedule with afterschool/evening and weekend appointments. (Also licensed in Oregon for telehealth!)
Clients currently have the option to do sessions remotely through Zoom OR in person in my office. My office is large enough for social distancing during 1:1 sessions and masks are required.
