What I Offer:

This class is designed for 6th through 9th graders who have a passion for creative writing. It provides a supportive and positive environment for students to immerse themselves in learning new creative writing skills, crafting poetry, and developing stories alongside their creative peers. During each session, students have the opportunity to write to a minimum of two prompts, sharing their creations with the class. Additionally, participants can choose to use the time for personal writing, allowing them to receive constructive feedback. Each class also includes a mini-lesson covering specific topics or skills, such as character development or dialogue, enhancing their overall writing proficiency.

See my website for more information, sample format, sample lessons, student writing, and comments.

Please Note: This is not a remedial writing group.  I tutor middle and high school students in Writing, Language Arts, Reading Comprehension, Social Studies/History, Organizational Skills, French, and Spanish.  See my announcement under tutors: Experienced Teacher Offering Private Tutoring for Middle and High Schoolers or my flyer.

What Students Have to Say About Creative Writing for Kids

  • "I have learned a lot about elements of a story like suspense, different points of view in a story, how to write a plot twist, and many other things. I've also gotten better at continuing to write a story and not just giving up after day 1. I've also grown in developing and describing my characters." --Jacob
  • "I’ve grown the most in terms of figuring out how to develop my characters and add plot twists that benefit or add to the mystery of the story. I’ve enjoyed learning how to add small details to my stories that may hint at something larger." --Sachi
  • "I think my greatest growth was being able to write about more sensitive topics, and incorporating real-life problems in my writing." --Nishka

Logistics and Fees

  • The tuition is $20-25 a class based on what parents/guardians feel comfortable paying. Payment is expected in full each month before the first class.  Students can attend as many classes as they'd like in February and March, but I require a 4-class minimum.
  • I accept Venmo, PayPal, and Zelle.
