Berkeley Rose Waldorf School: Kindergarten Openings for 2020-21

Preschools & Daycares with Current Openings
Preschoolers, Kinder

Berkeley Rose Waldorf School has a few openings for Kindergarteners for the 2020-21 school year and we invite you to visit our school to imagine your child growing and thriving in our home-like, tech-free environment. Our kindergarten program begins at age 4 years and 9 months and most children remain in it for two years. Ours is a play-based program that prioritizes pre-academic preparation through the learning of social skills, physical and emotional development, and overall, creating a love for school. We do this in a cozy and beautiful environment in which we bring cooking, home-care, painting, sewing, puppet plays, stories, singing, rhymes, verse, movement, crafts, and free play to the children for a consistent, calm, stress-free experience of school. Rhythms of day, week and season are used to create a support structure which fosters a healthy nervous system, confidence and ease. Through predictability, the child can relax.

Our children prepare for math through jump roping, counting stitches in hand-work, and finger-games. They learn advanced vocabulary and the ability to create inner pictures using and developing their naturally strong imaginations while listening patiently, intently, to elaborate fairy tales from cultures throughout the world. But most importantly, children play outside for 90 minutes per day, and experience an all-outdoor day once a week. Nature figures largely in the Waldorf curriculum, where true academics begin in First Grade. We believe that there are only a few years in which children have to play and develop their curiosities, unencumbered by the requirements of desk-sitting and academic expectations. These precious years are to be spent exploring and discovering the world through play. Graduates of our kindergarten leave ready to dive into reading, math, and nature observation, formal language instruction in Mandarin and Spanish, music, and structured movement and become the creative, independent thinkers and learners of the future. Financial aid is offered.

Join us at our Open House on Saturday, March 7 at 10:00 to noon, and a tour on Thursday, March 12 at 8:30 am.
